“Time in my studio calms my soul and inspires my imagination.” - Pipka
The Belgian Santa
Santa has asked the famous bakery, Maison Dandoy in Brussels, to make the gingerbread cookies, or speculoos, that he will bring to children on Christmas Eve. Made from a 150-year-old recipe, speculoos are a very old Christmas tradition in Belgian. Craftsmen carve the molds, some of which are 3 feet high, into figures of St. Nicolas, children, Christmas trees and animals. It wouldn’t be Christmas without these spicey, sweet and crispy cookies. Made with spices of ginger, nutmeg, cardamon and anise, this cookie is now served throughout Belgian and all-over European countries and America year round.
